Employees from Leading Companies Will Receive Training on Informed and Responsible Consumption

On the World Consumer Rights Day (15th March) the Bulgarian Local Global Compact Network launched the second edition of the ‘Responsible Choice’ programme under the slogan ‘One Matters’. The initiative aims at providing the citizens with an increasingly proactive stance thus imparting to them the confidence that their everyday choices and acts matter. The programme was launched in 2015 as a result of the ideas of member-companies of the GC Network Bulgaria – Overgas Inc. (JSC), Sopharma (JSC), TechnoLogika, ContourGlobal Maritsa Iztok 3 (JSC), University of Finance, Business, and Entrepreneurship, and Mobiltel (JSC) , with the participation of the Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, Mr. Georg Kell.

„The form of the democracy in the everyday life is that when we buy one product we vote for this producer, for this quality, for this product. Each one of us makes his or her responsible choice by buying one product and preferring something over something else. Through the ‘Responsible Choice’ Programme the GC Network Bulgaria aims to show that through transperancy in the responsible production and supply, the companies can demonstrate to the consumers that the latter have the power to change the production practices, to influence the “fashion” imposed by advertisers and to nurture anti-cosumerist culture in themselves and the young people.

The ‘Responsible Choice’ is part of the 2015+ Strategic Plan of the10174933_855335937872181_1362980192715053577_n GC Network Bulgaria which was presented in the beginning of March and concerns the work agenda on the UN Sustainable Development Goals; the Programme falls under Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. It includes inter-company trainings for employees in two main modules: The Responsible Consumer and The Rights of the Consumer, developed by specialists in the sphere. In the next editions are to be added and developed additional topics such as ones concerning the informed consumer, the company as a consumer, the issue of misleading marketing and advertising, civil education, etc. The interest and the high participation rate in the conducted pilot trainings prove the meaning and the place of these topics in the society as well as the necessity for additional information and clarification.

On the occassion of the World Consumer Rights Day the GC Network Bulgaria invites for paticiaption all companies which recognize the values of the initiative. The ‘Responsible Choice’ Initiative is open for participation to all companies, regardless of whether they are Members of the GC Network Bulgaria.
